The brief was to render Ratha Yatra as the once-a-year reversal it is: the deities brought out of the Puri sanctum and onto the road, pulled by anyone who can reach the rope. Register-bands carried that cleanly — the three chariots ranged across the upper band, each with its striped canopy, flag finial and great wheel, framing the round-eyed faces of Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra. Below, a single row of devotees leans into the ropes left to right, the whole festival reduced to its essential motion. We kept the canopies to the three traditional colours and the faces large, so the triad reads at a glance even from across a room. The hingula ground gives it the festival's heat.

  • Natural-oak frame on cream or warm-white walls lets the hingula ground glow
  • Hang at eye level in a puja nook or hallway where the three faces read first
  • Pairs with jagannath-triad-central and garuda-stambha for a Jagannath trio
  • Avoid strong red wall paint that would flatten the hingula ground
