The brief was to honour a very specific Puri ritual rather than just paint another deity portrait: during Anasara, the two weeks after the bathing festival when the deities are said to fall ill and withdraw, devotees are given a painted cloth, the Anasara Pati, to worship in their place. We built the whole composition around that single enormous round-eyed face so it carries the picture the way the painted substitute carries the temple's devotion. We split the face into a hingula-red and haritala-yellow half along the central column to keep the strict vertical symmetry these patis use, kept the attendants and kalash pots small at the edges, and left the geru ground open so the eyes do the work. It is iconography with a job to do, drawn to be read first and decorated second.

  • Natural-oak frame on cream or warm-white walls keeps the geru ground warm without yellowing
  • Hang at eye level in a puja nook or hallway so the round eyes meet the viewer head-on
  • Pairs with jagannath-triad-central, garuda-stambha or ratha-yatra-procession for a Jagannath grouping
  • Black frame echoes the lamp-black outline in rooms with dark wood
  • Keep adjacent decor calm so the split red-yellow face stays the focal point
