The brief was to translate a mahila mandal — a village women's collective — into shrine-cloth grammar, and the move that made it work was treating the standing teacher as the cloth's central figure, the position the Goddess holds in a classical Pachedi. She addresses a seated circle of women gathered around an open book and a round savings pot, and the surrounding panels reuse the tradition's own 'women at work' vocabulary — the spinning wheel, the grinding stone, the water pots — with a single hand-cranked sewing machine as the one quiet contemporary note, kept flat so it never breaks the three-tone discipline. Mata ni Pachedi has always shown the community around the Mother, so a women's collective belongs on it honestly; the cloth simply honours the labour and learning that hold a household together.
