The brief was to let Amba carry her full armoury without the panel ring turning to clutter, so she is drawn very large and frontal, the eight arms fanned into a clean halo of weapons while the lion strides beneath in flat deep-maroon. The warm-ecru ground was chosen to sit a half-shade warmer than plain cream, the way an old washed pachedi yellows at the Sabarmati. The Vaghri (Devipujak) community of Ahmedabad, long kept from temple sanctums, painted the Mother onto cloth to carry their shrine with them — so the dense outer grid of musicians, lamp-bearers and processing women reads as the whole congregation gathered around her, not decoration. Madder-maroon red, iron-rust black, undyed cream: nothing else, because the limited natural-dye triad is the entire discipline.
