DESIGN BRIEF: the celestial register is usually a quiet band, but this piece makes the sun and moon the headline — a great rayed sun and a broad crescent moon crown the wall so the whole cosmology sits under their light. At medium-light density the lights stay bold and uncluttered, with seated and mounted deities reading clearly beneath them and the village life kept spacious at the base. Among the Rathwa of Chhota Udepur the Lakhara opens the sacred wall with the sun and moon, the first marks that orient the cosmos; enlarging them honours that opening gesture. The blue four-armed deity and the small domed shrine give the eye two anchors once it drops below the sky.
