DESIGN BRIEF: this piece gives the top of the cosmology its full weight, so we let the deity register run wide across the upper wall rather than cramping it above the wedding band — at medium-light density each mounted god keeps its colour and its staff legible. The celestial band of sun, moon, birds and a stray trident frames the riders the way the Lakhara opens the sacred wall with the lights of the sky. Below, a domed wedding canopy and a base of archery, grinding and cooking remind you the gods sit atop an ordinary world. Among the Rathwa of Chhota Udepur the heavens register is where the deities arrive on horseback to bless the home; giving it room is faithful to how the wall is meant to be read.
