Babo Ind — the Indra pole worship · contemporary × Pithora fusion print · Rathwa-Bhil folk art of Chhota Udepur, Gujarat

Before the rains are thanked, the pole goes up — and here the whole village leans toward it while a bus and a tractor wait their turn at the edge of the field.

The translation problem was the Ind worship itself: how to keep a vertical ritual pole as the unmistakable centre while still letting modern village life crowd in around the harvest it celebrates. A central pole axis solved the layout — the garlanded Ind rises dead-centre, villagers kneel and plant around its foot, and the eye climbs it to the rain-cloud that the festival petitions. The Rathwa raise the Ind pole to honour the rain-bringer and the year's yield, so the dotted folk rain falling from the cloud is the point of the picture, not decoration. The blue bus and red tractor stayed because they belong to the same fields now; rendered in the same outline and flat colour, they sit in the lower band as part of the procession of plenty rather than breaking the folk grammar.

  • Natural-oak frame on cream or warm-white walls keeps the central pole and rain-cloud readable
  • Hang where the eye can climb the vertical pole — a tall, narrow wall or a stairwell suits the composition
  • Pair with weekly-haat-market or village-mela-wheel for a Pithora village-life wall
  • Sits well in a kitchen-diner or family room where the small bus, tractor and rooster reward a closer look
  • Slim black frame echoes the black outlines when the room already has dark wood
