We briefed this as a Sohrai-mode Sarhul, the spring festival where Jharkhand's Adivasi communities greet the new year by worshipping the sal tree at its first flowering. Central-medallion composition was the natural fit — a flowering sal at the heart, a turbaned worshipper tending a flower-filled kalash beneath it, the women of the household gathered in calm symmetry on either side. We kept the crowd small and the clay ground open so the white sal blossoms and the offering stay the focus rather than a press of figures, with bullocks and deer at the base to settle the rite in the village and forest it belongs to. It is a festival told as a quiet act of devotion, the way a Sohrai wall would carry it.

  • Natural-oak frame on warm-white or clay walls keeps the terracotta ground reading as earth
  • Hang in a living room or a puja-adjacent wall where a festival scene suits the room
  • Pair with sohrai-karam-branch for a Sohrai festival set
  • Set beside sohrai-tusu-float for a Jharkhand festival pair
  • Avoid placing beside cool-toned art that would chill the warm earth palette
