The brief was to paint a Narmada aarti as the Gond would see it — not as a photograph of a famous ghat but as rhythm and water. Gond already owns the S-curve and the dash-row for moving water, so the river became the spine of the composition: one turquoise band on a diagonal, its current built from dash-rows, with the floating lamps strung along it as a chain of dots rather than literal flames mirrored in the surface. Devotees mass on the left bank in stepped pink stone so the eye reads the human warmth first, then follows the lamp-trail downstream into clean dark water. Keeping it medium-light mattered: a packed canvas of a hundred figures would have drowned the one idea — light placed gently onto a river at the day's edge. The temple and far pavilion stay as folk silhouettes so the scene reads Gond first, pilgrimage second.

  • Midnight-indigo ground glows on warm-white or pale clay walls — let the dark river breathe, do not crowd it with other busy prints
  • Pair with another river-band Gond piece such as river-fish-flow or turtle-river-flow at matching A2 for a water-themed pair
  • Natural-oak frame warms the magenta steps and marigold flames; black frame echoes the lampblack outline and the night ground
  • Hang at eye level in a puja-adjacent nook or dining wall where evening light catches the lamp-trail
