The bard who carries the forest in a fiddle — peacock at the headstock, the whole grove leaning in to listen.

This one honours the Pardhan themselves — the bardic clan within the Gond who were traditionally the keepers of song and story, the very community Jangarh Singh Shyam came from. The brief was to draw the singer large and still at the centre, eyes shut mid-phrase, with the bana fiddle as his second body: its peacock headstock is no accident, since the instrument's crest is genuinely carved as a bird in folk practice, and Gond loves to let an object bloom into an animal. The forest answers him in a handful of creatures rather than a crowd — a deer, a hare, two birds — so the listening grove reads as quiet attention, not clutter. Keeping it medium-light lets the scale-row vest, the comb-row turban and the plumed headstock each stay legible against the dark green ground, which holds the figure like the hush before a verse.

  • Forest-green ground sits well on cream, sage or warm-white walls — let the dark ground breathe around the figure
  • Pair with a single-animal Gond icon such as dancing-peacock-icon or standing-deer-icon at matching A2 for a music-and-forest set
  • Natural-oak frame warms the vermilion bana and turban; black frame echoes the lampblack outline and the dark ground
  • Hang at eye level in a music room, study or listening corner where the seated singer sets a calm tone
