The brief was to draw a naming-day chowki without it turning into a baby portrait: one cradle, one protective ring, geru left open around it. We reduced the slung cradle to a swing of beaded rice-paste lines holding a small swaddled form under a canopy of hanging beads, then ringed it with the things a naamkaran diagram actually carries — paired footprints to walk the child into the household, swastikas for auspicious beginning, lotus blooms above and below. The footprints repeat around the medallion the way a mother dots them around a cradle on the morning of the rite. We held the fill medium-light so the cradle reads instantly and the surrounding ground breathes. White biswar on geru, nothing else.
