DESIGN BRIEF: this piece weights the cosmology toward its earthly base, so we gave the lowest register the widest, calmest run — at medium-light density the ploughing team and the milking woman read as the heart of the picture rather than a footnote under the gods. The deity band and the wedding canopy still cap the wall to keep the cosmology intact, but the eye settles on the plough and the thatched home. Among the Rathwa of Chhota Udepur the earthly register is where the blessing of the upper worlds lands — in the fields, the cattle and the cooking fire of an ordinary household. Letting the ploughing breathe across the base is faithful to why the wall is painted in the first place: a vow for the home's prosperity.
