The brief was the Venugopala form: Krishna the cowherd whose flute draws everything toward him, so the composition centres one dominant green-bodied Krishna in the classic triple-bent tribhanga, both hands at the flute, on a lotus under a makara-toranam arch. The green body is the serene sattvic register of Kerala's guna code, exactly the gentle pastoral Krishna this form is loved as. Rather than a crowd, the density stays medium-light: a single gopi on each side holding a lotus, a white cow resting at each corner with its head turned up to the music, and the warm ochre ground left open around the figure. The flute is the still centre everything in the panel leans toward.

  • Natural-oak frame on a cream or warm-white wall keeps the ochre ground glowing
  • Hang above a puja shelf or in a music room where the flute theme fits
  • Pairs naturally with guruvayurappan-krishna or kaliya-mardana for a Krishna grouping
  • Black frame echoes the lamp-black outline when the room has dark wood
  • Good in a bedroom or quiet corner for its gentle, lyrical mood
