Ardhanareeswara Kerala Mural Art Print — half-Shiva half-Parvati composite in flat panchavarna bhitti-chitra style, collector edition of 500

One body, two natures — held to a single calm icon where the green Shiva half and the red Parvati half meet down the centre line.

The brief was to paint Ardhanareeswara so the join reads as union rather than a stitched-together gag, and the guna colour code did the heavy lifting: the right half is green, Kerala's marker for the serene sattvic divine, carrying Shiva's trishula, crescent and tiger-skin; the left half is the warm red-and-gold of Parvati, raising a lotus. We held the density medium-light — one dominant figure at roughly two-thirds of the panel on open mustard-ochre ground — so the eye reads the vertical split cleanly instead of fighting clutter. The flanking pair, a small attendant and a devotee beside white Nandi, anchor the scene without crowding it. This is the composite form a Kerala sanctum wall would carry frontal and full-length, the way Shiva temples at Ettumanoor and Vaikom keep their murals.

  • Natural-oak frame on a cream or warm-white wall keeps the mustard-ochre ground glowing without yellowing it
  • Hang above a puja shelf at eye level so the vertical male/female split reads top to bottom
  • Pairs naturally with gangadhara-shiva or shiva-parvati-uma for a Shiva-Devi devotional grouping
  • Black frame echoes the lamp-black outline when the room already has dark wood
  • Keep it away from competing red textiles directly adjacent so the green Shiva half stays the cool counterweight
