The brief was to honour the patience of bandha ikat, where the pattern is tied and dyed into the yarn before weaving even begins. Twin-mirror composition set two weavers at facing pit-looms about a central child winding bobbins, so the picture reads as a workshop in balance, the craft passing between generations. The translation problem was the ikat itself, so we drew the warp on each loom as a flat blue-and-black chevron — the resist-dyed pattern made legible — and hung the dyed skeins across the top as flat red, indigo and white bands, the way patta handles colour. The baskets of yarn balls at the corners root it. The cream ground keeps the looms crisp and the work readable.
