The brief was to turn a working rooftop garden into an Aipan quadrant rather than a botanical study: a pot in each quarter, each in its own arched niche, with a central lotus roundel to hold them and corner lotuses to close the frame. We held the fill near half so the geru ground reads inside the niches and around the pots, and drew each plant as a distinct silhouette — a leafy sapling, a chilli plant with hanging fruit, a head of marigolds, a leafy herb — so the crops read apart without colour. The chhat bageecha is the everyday Kumaoni rooftop or courtyard kitchen garden, and translating it into Aipan keeps the gardener's pride inside the ritual grid. Drawn the old way, white biswar on geru, the garden stays a two-tone diagram.
