Cheriyal scrolls come from Cheriyal village in Telangana's Siddipet district, painted for generations by the Nakashi artist community for travelling balladeers — who, among other things, sang the origin legends of the region's working communities. Toddy-tapping (geeta) is the traditional livelihood of the Goud (Gouda/Yadava-linked) community across Telangana, who climb the palmyra and date palm at dawn and dusk to draw kallu, the fresh palm sap.
