The brief was to paint the roadside mishti shop as the small institution it is in Odisha, with the shopkeeper as the unmistakable hero behind his counter. Central-deity composition put him at the heart, mid-scoop, lifting a rasagola from the brass pot, the hanging scale above him like an attribute. The translation problem was the glass display case, so we drew it as flat bordered cells of stacked sweets — white, yellow and red — over an arched arcade base, the way patta handles any architectural frame. A woman with her bowl and a boy reaching up at the counter keep it a real transaction. The geru ground gives the everyday scene a warm, almost devotional weight, which is about right for rasagola.
