We briefed this as a Sohrai-mode Tusu Parab, the Sankranti festival where Jharkhand's women carry a tiered, flag-decked Tusu float to the river and immerse it. A diagonal carries the whole journey: the float shouldered by its bearers on the land at the left, the river curving in at the lower right with a boatman poling past swimming fish, so the wall reads from village to water in one move. We kept the float tall and bright and the bearers few, the clay ground open, so the decorated structure stays the hero rather than a press of figures. A cow and calf at the foot and peacocks in the upper corners settle the rite in the everyday country it belongs to.
