We briefed this as a Sohrai village-life frieze of the weekly haat, the market where the plateau women lay out mahua, tendu, sal-leaf plates and vegetables on leaf-mats. The challenge was rendering a crowded market in mural line without it collapsing into noise, so we built three calm registers: the banyan and the arriving bullock cart up top, a single readable row of five seated sellers in the middle, and an animal frieze at the base. Each seller gets her own heap in a different earth tone — pale cream, marigold-orange, stacked greens, dark baskets — so the stalls read one at a time the way you actually walk a haat. The clay-brown ground keeps it grounded in real market dust rather than a flat backdrop.

  • Natural-oak frame on warm-white or clay walls keeps the clay-brown ground reading as earth
  • Hang where people linger — a dining room or kitchen — so the stalls reward a slow read
  • Pair with sohrai-lac-bangle or sohrai-mahua-gathering for a forest-livelihood set
  • Avoid hanging beside cool-toned art that would chill the warm earth palette
  • Black frame echoes the manganese outline in a room with dark wood
