We briefed this as the collection's anchor Sohrai harvest frieze: a short, unhurried line of cattle rather than a parade. Sohrai is the women's harvest wall art of Hazaribagh, daubed after the rice is in to welcome the cattle back to the home, so horizontal-frieze symmetry lets the herd walk the way it does on a real mud wall. Three large, readable humped zebu carry the middle band, a flowering tree and a pair of peacocks fill the upper field, and two deer settle the base — the terracotta-orange ground chosen to read as warm, post-harvest earth rather than a flat backdrop. Keeping the herd to three and the flanking motifs few is the whole point; the eye rests between the animals instead of fighting clutter.
