The Renault 5 Turbo was produced from 1980 to 1986 as a homologation special for Group 4 rally competition. Unlike the standard Renault 5, the Turbo variant moved the engine to a mid-mounted position behind the driver — necessitating the dramatically widened rear wheel arches that define the car's visual identity. The road version produced 160 PS from a turbocharged 1.4-litre unit; the competition version reached 270 PS.
