Developed for the 1984 WRC season, the Peugeot 205 T16 shared only its outer body panels with the production 205 hatchback. Beneath the Kevlar and fibreglass skin, Peugeot Sport engineers placed a mid-mounted 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder producing approximately 350 bhp, driving all four wheels through a five-speed gearbox. Timo Salonen won the 1985 Drivers' Championship; Peugeot took both Manufacturers' titles in 1984 and 1985.
