The brief was to catch what an overnight Indian sleeper coach actually is: a temporary village, three berths high, where strangers read, sleep and share food until dawn. Register-bands were the obvious translation — the stacked berths read exactly like the narrative bands of a Ramayana patta, each level its own small scene. We gave the night as flat indigo window-panels with a crescent moon and a few huts rather than a perspective landscape, because patta wants the outside as motif, not as depth. The child at the window watching the dark fields is the line that makes it a journey and not just a diagram.
