Kerala Toddy Tapper on the Palm Kerala Mural Art Print — a tapper climbing a coconut palm with his collecting pot in panchavarna bhitti-chitra style · collector edition A2

The job that asks you to climb forty feet for breakfast — the toddy tapper near the crown, pot at his waist, the village waiting below.

The brief was height, which a mural cannot render with perspective — so the tall portrait format simply becomes the palm. The coconut trunk runs the full height of the panel, ringed with a green climbing binding, the climber two-thirds up reaching to the cut spadix bound at the crown, his red clay collecting pot hanging at his waist as a flat shape and a foot-loop marking the grip. Giving him a small halo lends a daily-wage climber the quiet rank a mural usually reserves for higher subjects — the same dignity-move the collection uses for its field workers. The crown fans out in flat green fronds heavy with coconuts, and at the base a small group waits, one holding a pot for the fresh toddy. A tiled house and more palms sit to the side, and the medium-light density keeps the ochre ground open so the vertical line of the climb stays the whole point.

  • Natural-oak frame on a warm-white wall keeps the palm green and ochre ground warm
  • Hang in a study or living room where the tall vertical palm fits a narrow space
  • Pairs with rubber-tapper-plantation or tea-pickers-munnar for a Kerala trades trio
  • Sits well in a narrow hallway given its strong vertical line
  • Avoid a busy patterned wall — the single palm wants a plain ground around it
