Holi — the colour-throw and the village in play · contemporary × Pithora fusion print · Rathwa-Bhil folk art of Chhota Udepur, Gujarat

Holi's whole problem is that the colour goes everywhere — so Pithora simply made the flying gulal into its own dots and let the mess become the pattern.

The translation problem was the colour itself: Holi is defined by pigment thrown into the air, which is exactly the kind of mess a tidy folk wall resists. The solution was to lean in — turn the flying gulal into the wall's own dot-and-dash vocabulary, so the bursts of colour between the players read as folk pattern rather than chaos, and the pichkaris arc clean folk lines of spray. A scatter-village layout let the players spread across the middle, each flinging or spraying, a drummer keeping the beat. Holi is a spring festival shared far beyond any one community, so it belongs on the wall beside the deity riders. The tractor, bus, carousel and cricket in the lower band keep the festival grounded in the village having a day off.
