DESIGN BRIEF: the brief was the rhythm of pounding, so the hero is a band of paired figures driving long pestles into tall wooden mortars, alternating with conical heaps of pounded turmeric so the beat of the work reads straight across the row. We held the fill to medium and kept the fish-net frame open rather than a packed mesh, leaving clear deep-maroon ground between the mortars and heaps so the pounding stays legible and never blurs into one mass. The figures are the rounded, faceless, bent-knee Saura type — never Warli's joined triangles — and there is no perspective depth; the work stacks in bands with a dance and a carrying procession below. Turmeric is grown, pounded and traded across the Lanjia Saura hills, and the dancers and weighing-scales around the pounding tie the labour to the festival and the market it feeds.
