DESIGN BRIEF: the brief was the night-and-day sky as a canopy over ordinary life, so we used the sun-moon-crown symmetry and gave the top of the panel a rayed sun, a crescent moon, and a wide scatter of small dot-stars across the deep-maroon ground. Below that crown the village simply carries on in honest registers — peaked huts with reclining figures, a tree of life with a base shrine post, hoeing and dancing, drummers and a bullock cart. We held the fill medium-light so the maroon reads as real night-sky between the stars and the eye rests on the open ground, and refused faces, colour and perspective depth. Keeping the heavens and the daily world on one wall is exactly how real Lanjia Saura panels speak in the Rayagada hills, where sun, moon and stars sit comfortably above horses, fields and dancers.
