DESIGN BRIEF: the brief was to put the monsoon itself into the celestial register — a cluster of banked rainclouds with a lightning bolt and falling rain, set between the usual sun and moon, so the wall reads as a prayer answered. At medium-light density the cloud bank stays the clear headline while the peacocks below — the birds that dance when the rains come — pick up the theme. Among the Rathwa of Chhota Udepur a Pithora is often vowed for the prosperity the monsoon brings, so a rain-cloud sky is faithful to why the wall is painted. The displaying peacocks and the small canopied couple give the eye two warm anchors once it drops from the storm.
