Mokhada River Boat Warli Poster — classical Indian folk art wall decor · framed A2

Three river bands, one crescent hull — the Mokhada crossing where the pole steers and the catch sits between the rowers.

DESIGN BRIEF: horizontal-band symmetry for a fishing crossing, not the tourist poster that stacks sun, moon, spiral, and chauk until the ochre disappears. River boat with pole is a Mokhada grammar problem — how do you show shore labour, mid-river transit, and landing trade in one vertical frame without perspective depth or a tarpa circle stealing the centre? Three registers was the answer: upper bank for net cast and hut life, middle band for the crescent hull hero, lower bank for the exchange basket. What we refused: concentric dance rings, central chauk ritual geometry, vanishing-point river perspective, and the generic village panorama filler. What we kept legible: diamond cross-hatch hull texture, steersman pole with fish at the tip, four rowers in paired lean, overflowing central catch basket, and mirrored shore net triangles above and below the water band. Light-mid density (~50% fill) leaves ochre breath between wavy lines — the empty ground between palm fronds and boat rim is composition, not unfinished wall.

  • Natural-oak frame on warm white or terracotta-washed walls — echoes ochre ground without competing with white line work
  • Hang at hallway eye level where the middle river band and crescent hull read as a horizontal crossing at standing sight line
  • Pair with River Net or Bamboo Bridge classical Warli prints at matching A2 for a fishing triptych along one wall
  • Black frame suits study walls with dark wood desks — white lines pop against charcoal or deep green accent paint
  • Avoid cool grey minimal rooms that flatten terracotta warmth; earth-tone adjacent decor keeps the mud-wall illusion intact
  • For diaspora homes, stack A3 beside Pond Vessel at equal size for Mokhada water-labour pairing without repeating the boat motif
