IAI Lavi Cutaway Poster — 1986 Canard-Delta Prototype Split-View Blueprint Print

A canard-delta that flew once and still haunts every indigenous fighter briefing — the Lavi earns ISRAELI STEALTH DREAM brush script because Israel built an F-16-class airframe on its own terms before Washington pulled the plug.

Rank 98 documents the IAI Lavi — Israel Aircraft Industries' ambitious fourth-generation fighter prototype that promised indigenous canard-delta agility without foreign dependency. First flown 31 December 1986 from Tel Nof, the single-seat demonstrator paired relaxed static stability with fly-by-wire controls, a Pratt & Whitney PW1120 derivative engine, and avionics architecture aimed at export and domestic production. The program absorbed lessons from the Kfir and Cheetah lineage while chasing F-16 performance in a lighter, more maneuverable delta-canard layout. United States pressure over competing with the F-16, combined with a projected $2 billion development cost, led the Israeli cabinet to cancel Lavi in August 1987 after two prototypes and roughly a dozen test flights. Engineers and tooling migrated into later IAI programs — avionics, UAVs, and the continued Kfir export market — but the airframe itself never entered squadron service. Wallimilist renders the top-down split view with blue-grey camo exterior, bone wireframe rib lattice, IAI LAVI decal title, ISRAELI STEALTH DREAM kicker, and IAF Squadron badge exactly as the master PNG dictates — 1986 Cold War palette, canard-delta geometry, and curator copy on cancellation politics and indigenous fighter ambition.

  • Black frame on deep forest green or charcoal walls — bone wireframe and blue-grey camo stay balanced without overpowering neutral upholstery
  • Pair with F-16C Fighting Falcon or Kfir at matching A2 for Lavi-versus-adopted-fighter context
  • Hang above a credenza at eye level; the canard-delta split-view and IAF roundel read best with half a metre stand-off
  • Natural-oak frame suits study walls where forest plate echoes wood beside aviation history texts
  • Stack A3 beside Mirage 2000 for 1980s delta-fighter prototype comparison on a shared cutaway grid
  • Avoid competing saturated blue decor directly beside the plate if you want Israeli roundel tones to stay accurate
