A dance that turns instead of marches — the circle spirals in to the drum, and the village keeps time around it.

DESIGN BRIEF: the brief was a turning circle dance, the hardest thing to draw on a flat wall, so we let it read as nested rings of joined dancers spiralling inward to two centre drummers, the curve carried by the rice-paste line with no perspective trick. We held the fill to medium and kept the fish-net frame open rather than a packed mesh, leaving clear brick-red ground so the rings stay separate and the bent-knee bodies legible. The figures are the rounded, faceless Saura type — never Warli's joined triangles — and there is no depth; the rings sit flat, the village stacks around them in bands. This is the fusion idea: a present-day village complete with a well and a cyclist drawn in the same monochrome line as a circle dance that Saura communities have turned at festivals for generations.

  • Natural-oak frame warms the brick-red ground on cream or limewashed walls; black sharpens the white line in a darker room
  • Hang at eye level so the spiralling rings and centre drummers read first
  • Pairs with drum-dance-circle and women-pot-dance for a communal-dance trio from the same Saura run
  • Set beside dhuli-dindi-dance for two village-dance fusions side by side
  • Keep adjacent decor in muted earth tones so the monochrome white line stays dominant
