The Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer debuted as the 365 GT4 BB in 1971 and evolved into the 512 BB in 1976, replacing its predecessor's 4390cc unit with a 4942cc flat-12 engine producing 360 PS at 6,200 RPM. Pininfarina's design placed the flat-twelve engine longitudinally behind the passenger cabin and ahead of the rear axle, achieving a low centre of gravity that defined the Berlinetta Boxer's road behaviour. The 512BB ran through 1981 in standard carburetted form and as the injected 512 BBi from 1981 to 1984.
